Shaan was born in 1972 into a musical Bengali family in Mumbai; his father Manas Mukherjee was a music director and his grandfather Jahar Mukherjee a lyricist. He started with jingles and remixes alongside his sister Sagarika.
Career highlights
His album Tanha Dil (2000) made him one of the leading faces of Indian pop. Bollywood followed with Woh Ladki Hai Kahan (Dil Chahta Hai), Chand Sifarish (Fanaa), Jab Se Tere Naina (Saawariya) and Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh (3 Idiots).
