About Lakshmipathy Balaji
Lakshmipathy Balaji is a former India fast bowler and now one of the country’s most respected bowling coaches. Born in Chennai in 1981, he was a right-arm fast-medium bowler famous for his ever-present smile, even when hit for runs, which made him one of the most popular Indian cricketers of the mid-2000s, especially during India’s historic 2004 tour of Pakistan.

Balaji made his ODI debut against the West Indies in November 2002 and his Test debut against New Zealand in October 2003. He played eight Tests, taking 27 wickets, and 30 ODIs, taking 34 wickets, and later played T20 internationals. He was part of the team that finished runners-up at the 2004 Asia Cup.
In the IPL he played for Chennai Super Kings and took the first hat-trick in IPL history in 2008. He later won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders and went on to become a bowling coach, working with IPL franchises and Indian teams.
