About Yusuf Pathan
Yusuf Pathan is a former India all-rounder famous for some of the cleanest, most powerful hitting the Indian game has seen. Born in 1982 in Vadodara, Gujarat, he is the elder brother of former India cricketer Irfan Pathan, and the two grew up practising together in the grounds of a mosque where their father worked. He was part of two World Cup-winning Indian teams and is now a Member of Parliament from Baharampur in West Bengal.
Career highlights
Yusuf made his first-class debut in 2001–02 as a right-handed batter and off-spinner for Baroda. He made his international debut in the final of the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup, which India won, and was also part of the team that won the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
In the IPL he was one of the league’s first big stars. He won the inaugural 2008 title with Rajasthan Royals, scoring a vital half-century in the final, and later won two titles with Kolkata Knight Riders. He is remembered for one of the fastest centuries in IPL history. He retired from all cricket in February 2021.
